Late night herping in Jedediah Smith State Park

When I was returning home from my latest work trip in Eureka I took a late night hike trough Jedediah Smith Trails as one last attempt to spot a Giant, no luck. Although I found some familiar species and a spotted one I had never seen.

An Adult Del Norte Ensatina.

A Tailed Frog. This was another first spotting for me. I almost stepped on this guy while climbing over a pile of fallen trees above a creek. I was unfamiliar with this frog upon initial contact and found out later when I referenced a field guide. When I found out it was a tailed frog I was dissapointed I did not get a better photo showcasing his namely "asset".

An adult Del Notre Variety of the California Slender Salamander.
